Java is a general-purpose, secure, robust, object-oriented language developed by Sun Microsystems in 1990. Java is portable which means it follows to write once run anywhere paradigm. The latest version is Java 13 which was released on March 2019. This tutorial helps you to install Java 13 latest or Java 11 LTS on macOS Sierra or High Sierra.
Step 1 – Prerequisites
Our advice is don’t rely using Java 6 on Sierra until Apple clarify whether it will be officially supported. Java 7 and 8 are officially supported in OS X 10.12 Sierra and if you don’t need Java 6, we highly recommend updating to Java 7 or 8 because Java is notoriously insecure and older versions are particularly vulnerable to attack and bugs. Text cannot be entered into dialog boxes on macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) when ImageJ is using Java 6. Commands (e.g. FileImportVideo) and plugins that use QuickTime for Java fail with 64-bit versions of Java and with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and later. For a long time now, if you needed an older macOS installer (such as Sierra or El Capitan), you could visit the App Store, go to your “Purchased” page, and re-download anything you’d used in.
